Thamesville Bridge, 1936

Victoria Road, Thamesville
Thamesville  Ontario

Current
Owner:
  Municipality of Chatham-Kent

History:     Full details with pictures and description on www.historicbridges.org/truss/thamesville/

This designated bridge is rated 8/10 in National importance and 9/10 in local importance.
The Canadian-made cantilever truss bridge is particularly unusual because of its small size.

Details:     This bridge is on the main connecting road from Highway 401 to Thamesville. It is being considered for demolition by Chatham-Kent who are looking at the option of replacing it with a wider bridge - possibly in 2015. Nathan Holth who created the Historic Bridges web site visited the bridge in 2013 and confirmed that it is in relatively good condition in spite of some neglect.

What
can you
do to
help:
The Chatham-Kent branch has requested a Preservation Works! evaluation of the bridge. It is being watched by the branch and the CK Heritage Committee. It is hoped that with information from Preservation Works! we can pressure the municipality to conserve and preserve this important bridge.
