March 8, 2009
The prestigious annual Marion Garland Heritage Award was presented to Joan and Gerry Tooke at the Port Hope Branch of the ACO's annual general meeting held February 19th.at the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Hope.
The Tookes were recognized for their "tireless" efforts in contributing their time to heritage projects and public service in Port Hope over the years.
The Tookes have been instrumental in researching and publishing several books on Port Hope architecture, as well as being involved with the Port Hope Fall Agricultural Fair, one of the oldest on-going in Ontario, and the cultural committee.
In addition, they have devoted tremendous amounts of their time to ACO endeavors including: creation of the original branch web site, publishing the local branches newsletter - ACO Matters, organizing the annual Antiques & Artifacts Auction and much, much more.
All present at the meeting agreed, with a grat round of applause, that the award, which was graciously received by the Tookes, was well-deserved.
