Call for Nominations
June 24, 2009
We invite you to submit nominations for the 2009 Annual Awards, which will be presented at our annual Gala Dinner on November 6, 2009. As the principal non-government volunteer organization for heritage conservation in Ontario, the Awards Program of the ACO is designed to honour preservation leaders and/or projects that are considered valuable on a provincial scale to the architectural conservation movement in Ontario. At the same time, the organization continues to encourage Branches to run their own Awards Programs in their local communities. The new provincial awards are named after the ACO’s founder and dedicated early leaders.
General Criteria
The general criteria include the degree of:
- significance of the heritage issue or project;
- difficulties that the project and/or persons faced;
- impact the project’s success has had on the immediate community; and
- innovation, commitment and leadership demonstrated.
The ACO would like to bring province-wide attention to the achievements of these nominees. Their work can serve as models for others and may include such actions as innovative strategies, long-term leadership in the field, significant restoration work or special service to the ACO organization
Eligibility
The ACO requires that the person/group that submits a nomination be a member of the ACO;
The nominee may be an individual, an informal group or an organization that is actively involved in heritage conservation in the Province of Ontario;
The activities that are recognized are directed to those that have taken place within the last five years, with the exception of the lifetime achievement award;
Unsuccessful nominations may be revised and re-submitted another year;
Multiple awards may be given in each category except for the Eric Arthur Lifetime Achievement Award where only one recipient will be honoured each year;
An award need not be given each year.
Jury
The committee established to select the recipients will be made up of the current President of the ACO (or her or his delegate), the Past-President of the ACO (or her or his delegate), the chair of the Awards Committee as well as several ACO members who have experience and/or interest in the awards program. The Jury will make the final selection. The awards will be presented at the ACO’s annual Awards Dinner in November.
