H.A.L.P.
Historic Architectural Linking Program
Buyers in Ontario are often unaware when vacant historic buildings become available for sale: Properties off the beaten path; part of a larger site slated for redevelopment; not listed with a real estate company or only listed locally.
Through its electronic referral service H.A.L.P., the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario publicizes the availability of vacant, at-risk historic buildings threatened by neglect, demolition or inappropriate alteration, and links prospective purchasers with the property owner.
A building in Ontario will qualify for H.A.L.P. if it meets all three of the following criteria:
- It has architectural merit
- It is vacant and is unlikely to sell to a sympathetic owner in the near future
- It is, or may be, threatened with neglect, demolition or inappropriate alteration
To nominate a building for H.A.L.P., please e-mail the ACO the exact location of the building, a brief description, photograph(s) and the contact information for the current owner.
